Joan of Arc Council 1992
Founded in 1882 by Father Michael J. McGivney, the Knights of Columbus is the largest Catholic fraternal service organization in the world today. With over two million members worldwide serving in 17,000 Councils and 300 college campuses, the Knights of Columbus have been able to give over 80 million hours of community service and donate over $185 million in charitable donations worldwide in the last year alone. Because of this service, the Knights have come to be known as "the strong right arm of the Church". Each member is guided by the four main principles of the order; charity, unity, fraternity and patriotism. The Knights are proud to support through their donation of time, talent and treasure, organizations such as the Special Olympics, Habitat for Humanity, various veterans programs, a sonogram donation program, Coats for Kids, Food for Families and a global wheelchair mission.
The Knights of Columbus Joan of Arc Council 1992 was founded in July, 1919. Located at Infant Jesus Parish in Port Jefferson, Joan of Arc supports the Parish not only through monetary donations but through volunteering in almost all facets of Parish life. With over 150 members, Joan of Arc serves the Parish as ushers and Lectors at Mass, Eucharistic Ministers, religious education instructors, assist the social ministry in the food pantry and serve on the Parish council. The Council also run four pancake socials, two blood drives, two food drives,a "Keep Christ in Christmas" poster contest and a basketball free throw contest for our youth, the Parish's annual Irish night and the backwards drawing. Our main fundraisers each year are our charity golf outing and Christmas wreath sale.
